Silver Duke of Edinburgh Tramp
On Friday 21st September, 26 Pinehurst Year 11 and 12 students embarked on a Silver Duke of Edinburgh Tramp in the far North of the Coromandel. This was a new route, as the Waitakere and the Hunua, their usual ‘stomping’ ground, had been shut due to Kauri die back disease.
The students navigated their way from Fletcher Bay to Stony Bay up into the clouds on the 2nd day, over a hill and down to Port Jackson for the 2nd night. On Sunday the students walked along the beach and over some cliffs, known as the Murawai walkway and back to the vans. All in all, the students covered 34km, encountering a variety of terrain.
