Alumni Update: Victoria Arrowsmith
Victoria graduated from Pinehurst in 2015 and is now studying Communication Design, majoring in UXUI at AUT University City Campus.
She says that the work opportunities she’s given are interesting, and by year 3 has enough experience to take the assignments further into the real world. There is a hands-on approach, she has done two internships and is looking for a third. Some students have already become freelance or have design jobs.
After graduation, Victoria would like to travel and do paid internships until she finds a part of design that she really enjoys. There are so many different job opportunities in design that Victoria feels it would be good to experience as many as possible before starting a career.
“Pinehurst really helped set me up for the best academic future leading into university. The teachers were all brilliantly caring and helpful and this encouraged me to do the best I could.”
Victoria received the Vice Chancellor Scholarship in Year 13, which helped her get into the courses she applied for and pick the one she wanted the most.
“Don't be afraid to take a year off between school and university if you aren't 100% sure what you want to do. Travel can also be a huge learning opportunity, or working full time and gaining experience for a year to help find your niche before committing to a university course.”
