Examination Results 2021

At Pinehurst we teach Cambridge from Year 1 to 13 because it works for every student, supporting and
challenging within a robust framework; it supports teachers and is consistent in its high standards; it is very well-resourced; and it offers a balance between skills, knowledge and understanding. In Year 12 and 13, it is excellent preparation for university and for other future pathways.

Pinehurst School students take Cambridge external examinations in five different year levels. For most students, it works like this:

  • In Year 6, the last year of Primary School, students take Checkpoint exams in English, Mathematics and Science.
  • In Year 9, students take Checkpoint exams in English, Mathematics and Science.
  • In Year 11, students take IGCSE exams in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and six or seven other subjects.
  • In Year 12, students take AS Level exams in English Language or English Literature and 3 or 4 other subjects.
  • In Year 13, students take A Level or AS Level exams in four or five subjects.

In 2021, Checkpoint exams didn’t take place because of Covid-19 restrictions, but all of our students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 who were taking IGCSE, AS Level and A Level examinations sat all of their examination papers in every subject. We were one of the very few schools in New Zealand in 2021 who can say this.

Once again, our students achieved outstanding results, sustaining our place as one of New Zealand’s strongest academic schools.

Pinehurst School Examination Results

AS Level and A Level Results

Of our 59 graduating Year 13 students, 100% achieved New Zealand University Entrance. This is an outstanding achievement.

Of those students who left Pinehurst in 2021, most will be attending Auckland University, Victoria University, Wellington or Otago University in Dunedin. Students have also received offers from British, American and Australian universities, and we expect around 12 of the 59 students to study overseas in 2022.

Our A Level results were outstanding, and continue to improve each year:

A* / A

At AS Level too, where students take a broader range of subjects and often find the jump from IGCSE a little more difficult, our results have continued to improve and are now very strong indeed. Note there is no ‘A*’ awarded at AS Level. All scores over 80% are awarded an ‘A’.
