Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award is a non-competitive programme of leisure activities for young people aged 14-25, which enables individuals to develop a series of personal challenges. The award comprises of four sections: Service, Skill, Expedition and Physical Recreation.
At Pinehurst we enrol each Year 10 student in the programme. At the beginning of the school year the Year 10 students complete online training at school to learn more about surviving in the great outdoors, before completing a two day tramp with school staff and the highly experienced outdoor providers, Peak Performance Solutions LTD.
The students are then encouraged to continue and complete the remaining three sections of their award during their time at Pinehurst. Many choose to continue to the Silver and even Gold levels of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award, which gives them a great sense of achievement, in addition to being a prestigious qualification, widely recognized by universities and employers alike.
