Tough Guy/Girl Challenge

Author -  Shannon Sager

On Thursday 25th July, 20 Pinehurst students took on the Tough Guy/Girl Challenge in Woodhill Forest. The team compromised students ranging from Year 9 to Year 13, plus Mr Rossin and Mr Goodrich representing England and Australia respectively. The challenge involved a ridiculously hilly and muddy 6km course including lots of mudpits, water obstacles, barbed wire and even electrified cargo nets. Many of the team were dressed up for the occasion. Best dressed went to Mikayla Nicholson, Nirvana Knill and Ellie Eastell, who were very ‘pink’ pigs. The event was well supported by Auckland schools and even had students travelling from as far away as Kaitaia and the Coromandel. Over the day 3000 students competed in 4 separate waves. All students had a great time in the mud and ran extremely well. Cameron Nicholson and Koa Nelson both chose good lines through the mud and finished in fantastic positions. Cameron was 27th and 6th Male U15 and Koa was just behind him in 29th and 7th Male U15. In the battle of the teachers, Mr.Rossin thrashed Mr.Goodrich, which bodes well for the more important, forth-coming Pomme v Aussie battle for the ‘Ashes’. I would like to thank Mrs.Perkins for completing all the organising. All 20 students had a great time and I look forward to taking another group of ‘tough guy/girl challengers’ next year – Neil Rossin
