‘Let’s Get Some More Goals Pinehurst’
Pinehurst 2nd XI Boys Hockey team scored their first goal in the first 19 seconds of play last Friday at North Harbour.
‘It’s a miracle’, said Mitchell goal keeper, and ‘We’re dominating’!, moments later as a second ball cannoned into the goal.
Mitchell along with Coach James Hornsby are strong motivating forces for the team. Mitchell keeps up a steady stream of advice from his perfect vantage point within the goal circle, while coach James busily rotates players on and off the turf to talk them through their strategy.
Mitchell takes his position as goal keeper seriously. One of his favourite strategies is to hurl himself on an incoming ball neatly stopping it, as well as blocking the mouth of the goal from further goal attempts.
At half time the team ‘talk it up’. ‘Nathan and Ollie are playing really well tonight’, says Cameron, and, ‘We’re playing so much better today’, says someone else.
In the second half goals 4 and 5, followed quickly by goal 6 in the last 2 minutes of play wrap up the game. Final score is Pinehurst 6, Long Bay 0.
‘Nice guys, says coach James, nice composure’.
