Junior Girls Volleyball Round Up

On the side line the girls shouted out, “1 point to go!” The rest of the girls on the court were focused and determined to win. The umpire blew the whistle to indicate to serve. One of our girls took the ball to serve and prayed it would get over. She stepped one foot out and hit the ball over the net, with relief. The other team hit the ball back. The first thing we heard was the voice from our captain, “Set it up!” So she set the ball up in the air, then I passed it back to her. Immediately she spiked the ball over the net and we won the game! Charity Dallow

That is a snapshot of the 10 games the girls played throughout the season. Our Junior Girls’ Volleyball team, made up of Year 10s: Chase Clayton, Danielle Nottage (Captain) and Anna Yu together with Year 9s: Ruby Abbott, Chalise Chevin, Charity Dallow, Amelia Gammon, Nina Ivancevic, Maria Kopilevich, Sophie Linton, Stella McInally, Emily Mole and Yeni Shin. Formed in Term 3 and coached by Mr. Verryt.  Together as one big team, our girls took part in the North Harbour Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Competitions in Term 4. Just like every other team, our girls have experienced highs and lows, tasted successes and failures, and gone through laughter and tears. But what makes us unique is that, for a game which only needs 6 players, we were the only team composed of 10 to 12 players in each single game rotating smoothly and swiftly like a clock with one heart. Throughout the season, our girls won 4 games out of the 10 games in total, which ranked them the 4th position on the chart. This is a phenomenal result for our girls considering the fact that some of them had never played volleyball before. And the highlight of season? That the Champion team of our division only lost one game. And it was to us. Yes, that is right, we were the only team who beat the Champion!  At the College assembly on these junior volleyball girls won the Sports Team of the fortnight for their remarkable commitment, teamwork spirit and 100% effort into training and games. Well Done Girls!
