Junior College Waterpolo Update

Author -  Shannon Sager

We have a dedicated group of students in the Junior College who have made a fabulous start to the Intermediate Schools’ Water Polo Competition this term. They are a mixed year 7 and 8 squad who manage to get to their trainings at the Glenfield Pools each Thursday morning for a 6.20 start!
Their games are on Tuesday nights and they have four quarters of four minutes each. Four minutes might not sound like a long time, but when you are treading very deep water and are throwing and catching a ball, it is exhausting.
New players to the game, Nicholas Johnson, Calder Bain and Jed Munro all agree that the hardest part is picking up the ball and balancing before throwing or shooting and getting fit enough to last the game. They also agree that one of the best things about the game is the team work and the fun of playing it together. They are grateful to the Year 8 students who are giving them tips and encouragement and a chance to improve their skills each time they get in the pool.
All the students would like to thank their parents for getting them to the pools so early each week, the Glenfield Pool staff and Vanessa Johnson - their excellent manager.
The players are: Calder Bain, Finn Brick, Tayla Brinkley, Danny Bublitz, Arden Callagher, Elise Callagher, Nicholas Johnson, Abby Milne, Jacob Milne and Jed Munro.
